25 - Camping
My mom worked at Scholastics at the time. She worked every day from 12a.m to 4p.m. She didn’t have any days off, so I looked at her calendar to see when she had a couple of days off. She had 7 days off next week!
Next, I asked my mom if we could go camping next week. She said,“ yes as long as everyone wants to.” I asked my family and they said,” sure we’d love to!” I told my mom that and she wanted us to get ready for next week!
A week later, we were all ready to go camping. My family and I got in the car driving to our campsite. We had a great time there! We roasted marshmallows, we played camp games and more! We had fun!
In conclusion, when you see tents at the store, have you ever wanted to go camping? I hope you will have fun going camping.
10 - Going to the lake
Next, it is time to wake up it is 5:00 am. My cousin spent the night at our house .We already got our clothes and everything ready the night before. I went to my parent room to wake them up. I went over to my mom, and told her,” Mom wake up it’s almost time to get everything on the truck”. She woke up my dad, and she told me , go wake up your brother” I went and woke up my brother, and my cousin and me were putting everything on the truck . My parents and my brother were all ready ,and they all got on the truck .
Finally , it was time to leave , I only brought my I pod to not get bored . We didn’t get to eat anything , and everybody was starving . It took us like 3 hours to get there . It was kind of fun and boring on the way there. When we got there it was really sunny . The parking space cost 10.00 $ . After we parked , we went t get in line. It was a long line the entrance was 30.00$ each person. When we got inside , we all went t the bathroom to get changed. Then we went to buy a family locker , it was huge .Then we went to a huge rollercoaster . After we went to all of the rides , we went swimming. I t was still early and we went to a lot of rides.
Finally , it was time to leave. It was 6.00 pm .We got to our house around 9.00 pm . When we got home I told my mom, ‘Thanks for taking us to Wild waves ‘.She said , ‘ your welcome’. All of us went to sleep because we were so tired . We all had a fun day at Wild waves.
18 - Gone to Florida
Gone to
Have you ever gone to another state and gone to new places. I have gone to
The winter of 2h010 on January 18s, 2h010, my family flew to
On the second day of being at the resort, in the morning, my family went to
The next day I went to Universal Studios. My favorite ride was this coaster that you picked a song and then the ride went straight up and straight down. Then you did a .lo/op-tee-loop and went down. You did another loop and then there was the end of the ride.
The rest of the week, our family went to the amusement parks, and stayed at the resort. At the resort, I ate icecream and played in the arcade. At the icecream house, you can get smoothies and soda as well icecream.
I am glad my family went to
16 - I touch
“Did you know your going to get an Iphone ,”I told my brother . He was so happy and said if he gets the Iphone , he will give me his Itouch. Then I was beginning to be so happy.
When we came to California, we went to this Vietnamese mall which was huge. There were a lot of cheap stuff that would be expensive in real stores. My brother found a black gel case for the Iphone and bought it for five dollars. We went back to the hotel and slept to get ready to go to Disneyland.
Then today, we came to Disneyland and bought our tickets. I was able to trick the staffs that I was nine years old so they wouldn’t make us pay more. We went on a lot of rides. Then there was a ride called Splash Mountain which was the most fun. When we went off the ride and was about to leave my brother realized he forgot his Iphone on the seat. My brother started to be as sad as a person getting suspended because he thought he wouldn’t get it after all. Lucky enough, the ride didn’t start yet and the man on the seat gave the phone to my brother.
Once we came home, my brother gave it to him, but he also said not to use it too much. My brother told me that he is going to give me his Itouch, but he needs to restart it first.
I am so happy I have an Itouch now so I can play all the apps.
2 - The Big Game
Those four sat with each other at lunch, so they could discuss there way of winning. They wanted to know who was in the Southpole. Also they had an extra player just incase.
It was time for playtime. They had to wait ten minutes because an other team was ahead of them. Until then, they found a ball, started to practice playing basketball. They were smart because they knew they had to save there energy for the real game.
Our coach yelled the countdown for the other team, and it was time for Kings versus Southpole. We did jump ball, and Willy got the ball, Willy passed it to Abdul and he made it. The losing team checked the ball and they made a shot. Elizabeth checked the ball, and she passed it to Le. Le went back, and he made a nice three pointer.
As time passed, the game was over. Everybody went to coach Katie to see who won. It was the Kings! We were so happy we started gloating to the other team. We also shook hands, and we said “Good game”.

Family letter 1/24/11
I hope you had a wonderful week. As you may know, I was not at Rigler last week. I spent most of the week at a training (with the 4th and 5th grade teachers) about how to improve reading and writing for all of our students.
I have some exciting news to share. I applied for a grant for some more books for our classroom library and we received the grant! The books will be arriving in 4-6 weeks. They are all books that the students have been interested in reading.
Families have been doing a wonderful job bringing in money for OMSI. Remember, you can bring in cash or a check made out to Rigler School. You do not have to bring in the whole amount at one time. Every single dollar counts.
Remember, the 5th grade is having a talent show on Friday the 28th from 6pm to 8pm in the auditorium! It is $3 per person, or $5 per family. The money raised will go towards OMSI. It will be a lot of fun and I hope to see you there!
Have a wonderful week,
Ms. L

Pictures from Ms. L
A few of you requested to see some more pictures of my family. Here are a few more that you can look at.
Ms. L
Here is Mateo and Natalia with the solar system puzzle they put together. Mateo did most of the putting together of the puzzle. Natalia, on the other hand, mostly wanted to take puzzle pieces out of the completed puzzle!
Over the winter break we all went sledding up on Mt. Hood. Here is a picture of me with the kids sliding down a little hill.
I told you about the ginger bread house that we created as a family. Here is a picture of that house.
30 - Family Letter for January
Happy January. The students have had a great first two weeks of the new year.
What are we studying?
We are studying about the scientific method in science. The students are also going to be working on their state science work sample in the next week. In mathematics, students have learned to add and subtract fractions with different denominators. We have also started the math groups on Fridays combining all three classes for math. In reading, the students finished their third novel of the year, and we will be starting our fourth novel in a week. In writing, students are working on writing longer pieces and correcting their mistakes.
Where can I see student writing?
You can always go to the classroom blog to see student writing. The blog website is www.2010rigler.blogspot.com.
I would like to be able to post pictures onto the classroom blog. I would not include any student names for privacy reasons. Please let me know if this would be ok with you.

How are things going with OMSI?
We have received three grants for the classroom from OMSI, plus one anonymous donor. As you may know, OMSI started out costing $145 per student. We received one grant from $1000 from OSMI for the class. We received another grant for $1200 for the class from the school. We also received $300 from our school PTA. This means each student has $50 to raise.
Until February 15th, an anonymous donor has agreed to match every dollar your child brings in, up to $20 per child.
With this grant your child needs to raise _____________ more dollars to attend camp with the match or ________ without the match. You can write a check to Rigler School if you want. Make sure you put your child’s name in the memo line.
______ I plan on allowing my child to attend OMSI camp May 23 - 25.
______ Please call me to answer questions I still have.

13 - My last day at school
First, I enjoyed with all my friends, and especially with my enemy. I thought that I’l never see them again, so I hung out with them. When morning recess was over they all had to split apart to different classes all over the school.
Then, I saw them again in lunch we were talking about talking about what school I was going to be going to. They were asking me “what are you going to be doing during Summer vacations?” I said I was going to be moving houses.
I will always remember, when we all had to go to after school they told me I will miss me. I got to see some during summer. We played together Tetherball and we cooked together and did many fun things.

Thanks a lot for what you donated ! I love having new stuff especially science things because science is my favorite subject in school.
I love using the science tubs and flash cards the most ! I made a pulley with my best friend and it was fun because we needed more people to help hold different parts of it, but soon we finished it and it worked!
I enjoy playing all of the different science games because they are fun and you learn!
Once again thank you very much for what you donated.
Sincerely,

27 - Party Punch
“Why isn’t he picking up?” Ring! Ring! That was the eighth ring, and yet, still no answer.
“Hello?”
“Finally you picked up, Morgan! There’s a Halloween party at Aaron’s house tonight at 6:00 p.m today. We both got invited! I’ll pick you up at 5:40 and then I’ll drive us to Aaron’s. Sound good?’’
“Oh, another Halloween party, huh? Aaron threw one last year. It was just a living room decorated like cemetery, filled with zombies, mummies, ghosts. Oh, and don’t forget the blood fruit punch. We’re just gonna be dancing. Barely anybody came last year, and Aaron thinks people will THIS year? I’m not gonna go, your on your own.”
“Come on, Morgan, don’t be a negative Nancy! Maybe this party is gone be better than last years, and maybe more than a few people will come! See ya at 5:40!” Before Morgan could answer, Spencer hung up.
Morgan looked at the clock, it was only 9:25 a.m.
“Should I go?” Morgan thought. He got out of bed and made breakfast.
“Mmmm!!! Eggs, bacon , butter and toast, can this get any better??” Today was Halloween, so Morgan didn’t have work. He ate his breakfast and then drank a cup of coffee. He hustled out the door and went for a walk down the street. As he was walking down 82nd street, he passed by Pop’s Costume Shop. He looked through the glass display window and saw a zombie costume. Morgan walked in and came back out in 15 minutes with 2 big bags.
It was 5:30 and Morgan was in his costume. Blood was all over his face. There was white make up on his face too. Beep! Beep!
“HEY MORGAN, LET’S GO!!!” shouted Spencer into the window of Morgan’s room.
“Your early,” said Morgan as he walked towards the car.
“How do you like my zombie costume?”
“Ha, ha, great! I figured if we came early we can eat more of the spider web cotton candy, and the blood fruit punch!”
They went to Aaron’s house, and Morgan was sitting on the couch, watching people play Pin The Tail On The Ghost. He knew he shouldn’t have came. Last years party there were only a few people attending. This years there were at least 40 people. Morgan said hi to a few friends and drank some punch. He stared at the ice cubes for a moment, adoring the perfectly cubed shape.
“How can ice be so perfect?” he said to himself. He can tell they were just right out the freezer, he tried biting one and almost broke his teeth. He also saw tiny little red dots INSIDE the ice cube. He drank another cup and continued watching.
“Wanna piece of black cat chocolate cake?” said Aaron.
“It’s just dark chocolate.”
“Sure. Thanks.” Morgan took a fork and started to gobble up the piece of cake.
“Ahhh! I see that you have drank the blood fruit punch.” Said Aaron suspiciously. “Don’t mind the red stuff in the ice cubes. These are called Halloween cubes. I got them at the super market yesterday.” He said, pointing to the cubes.
“Oh, yeah, the ice cubes are really cool, I wonder how they get the red stuff in it, huh?” said Morgan.
“Heh! Heh! Yeaahhhh………” replied Aaron.
As soon as Aaron went away from the snack table, Morgan left the house.
On his walk home a police car past him. The lights were on, so was the siren. It was going towards Aaron’s house. Morgan had a crazy thought that something happened during the party. Just as Morgan was about to head towards the front door of his house, he realized that he forgot his jacket at Aaron’s house.
“Oh, great!” He walked back to Aaron’s house and his mouth dropped at what he saw when he opened the door. He found everybody lying on the floor DEAD!! Then he noticed that there was fruit punch all over the floor. But, there were no ice cubes.
“Strange.” Said Morgan.
Only Spencer and Aaron were still alive. Morgan saw the police asking Spencer questions.
“And I never got to drink the punch!” Spencer told Morgan.
“The doctors need to examine the bodies.” said Officer John. Morgan saw Aaron shiver when he heard the officer saying this.
“Well, they don’t NEED to examine the bodies, do they? What if the bodies have disease?”
“Yes! Of course they have to examine the bodies! What if they were poisoned??? Oh, and we’ll have to check the food you served, Mr.Micknelle.
“Okay.” Aaron replied.
“Do you know why there’s fruit punch all over the floor?”
“No, no I don’t.”
The next day the police came back with the reports on the bodies.
“Well, we found X216 in the bodies, Mr.Micknelle. X216 is a deadly chemical that can kill any living thing.”
“Oh. I don’t know,”-
“As I left your house yesterday, I used an eyedropper and took a sample of the fruit punch. And I found out there was X216 in it. Can you explain this to me, Mr.Micknielle?”
“No! Aaron had nothing to do with this! The fruit punch has X216, but I drank some too. And I’m fine right?” said Morgan.
“Yeah! He did drink some!” said Aaron.
“Was there anything else in the fruit punch?”
“Yes. Ice cubes.” Aaron replied nervously.
“Do you have anymore of them in the freezer?”
“Yes, I made them, with an ice tray.”
“What? You said you bought them!” said Morgan, confused.
“Was there anything special about them?” said Officer John.
“Oh yeah! There were tiny red dots inside them.” said Morgan.
“We need to see those ice cubes.” said the officer.
There were 3 ice cubes left. They were in the ice tray. Officer John took them to go see what the red dots were. It was………….. was………….. X216!!!!!
“Aaron you are arrested! We found X216 in the ice cubes! The only reason why Morgan didn’t die was because when he drank the punch, the ice cubes were still thawed, WITH the X216 inside them, FROZEN. But in a few hours, when Morgan went home, the other guests drank the punch, and the ice was melted, releasing the X216 into the punch. You only did this to get revenge on the people who got invited to your party last year and didn’t come!”
Aaron was sentenced for 45 years in federal prison. While for Morgan, he made lots of money as a real estate agent. Spencer and Morgan were best friends, so they bought a big house together, and became housemates. So next time you drink party punch, CHECK THE ICECUBES!!

18 - Kickball
First, you kneed to learn the equipment. You absolutely need a ball and four bases the shape of a diamond. If you want to kick far a bouncy ball is the best. You also need a couple of kickers, a pitcher, a first, second, and third basemen, and a couple of outfielders. If you don’t have bases you could use sweaters, or cones.
The next thing you need to learn is the rules. The most important rule is that there is one kicker, because it starts the game. The next important rule is that the pitcher must roll the ball to the kicker. If the kicker kicks the ball past the 3rd base line, it is a foul. Another rule is that if the kicker kicks it, and the other team catches it, the kicker is out.
There are many good strategies to kickball. The best strategy is if you are on base, and the other team catches, you should run after they catch the ball. Another strategy is if a teammate is on first base and you are the kicker, you should kick toward third base so you don’t get your teammate out. A good strategy for the outfield is if you are at first base and the kicker is running toward second base you should throw the ball.
Kickball is a very, very fun game, so I hope you play. I can’t wait to see you.
